The Arab Urban Development Institute (AUDI) organized a constructive dialogue session titled “AECD 2027: The Next Chapter in Arab European Cities Cooperation” during the 8th United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) World Congress, hosted in Tangier, Morocco.
The session explored the future of cooperation between Arab and European cities, focusing on advancing from dialogue to implementation by building partnerships that deliver tangible local impact. Discussions also addressed shared urban challenges, including climate resilience, housing, economic transformation, and inclusive governance, highlighting the need for stronger international cooperation among cities.
Speakers Deputy Director General of Networks and International Organizations of the Madrid City Council; Hayat Sami, Head of Cooperation and Partnerships Department, Rabat Municipality; Mileva Al-Jamal, Director of the Health and Environment Department at the Municipality of Ramallah; and Jacopo Sobo, Deputy Mayor of Turin.
Participants discussed the value of Arab European city cooperation, shared experiences in international collaboration and municipal partnerships, explored opportunities to strengthen engagement with international cities, partners, and networks, and identified priorities for the next phase of cooperation, with an emphasis on translating partnerships into sustainable initiatives that generate tangible impact.
The session concluded by outlining the key priorities and commitments that participants aim to advance ahead of the Arab European Cities Dialogue Forum (AECD 2027) in Madrid.
